At Little Sunflower Therapy Co., we work with toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children who need support in the following communication areas:

Spoken language

Developing the ability to use of a range of different words and combine words into meaningful, grammatically accurate sentences. Developing comprehension skills (eg. understanding concepts and following verbal instructions).

Difficulties in this area include:

-Late talkers

-Expressive (speaking) and receptive (understanding of) language disorders

-Developmental language disorder (DLD)

Speech sounds

Developing the ability to produce individual speech sounds and combine sounds accurately into words that are clearly understood.

Difficulties in this area include:

-Articulation impairments (eg. lisps)

-Phonological delays and disorders

-Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)

Fluency

Producing sounds, words, and sentences by smoothly joining them in connected speech.

Difficulties is this area include:

-Sound, syllable and word repetitions

-Stretching out sounds when attempting to say a word

-Getting stuck when trying to say words

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Supporting children to use multimodal forms of communication to express their wants, needs, feelings and ideas.

Support in this area could involve:

-High and low-tech picture communication supports

-Key word sign

-Setting up communication apps on devices

- Training for parents and schools for communication systems

Pre-literacy & Literacy

Developing letter-sound knowledge and the ability to blend sounds into words for both reading and writing. Developing the ability to create and read different types of written text and understand material that is read.

Difficulties in this area include:

-Phonological awareness difficulties

-Difficulty identifying letters and knowing corresponding sounds

-Reading, writing, spelling difficulties

-Difficulty understanding meaning of written text

Social communication

Developing verbal and non-verbal communication skills to engage with others in a range of contexts.

Children with these difficulties or differences may benefit from support in the following areas:

-Turn-taking and sharing

-Developing conversational skills

-Navigating peer interactions

-Conflict resolution and negotiating

NDIS Clients

We accept referrals from NDIS clients who are plan-managed and self-managed. NDIS clients are charged as per the 'NDIS Pricing Arrangement and Price Limits 2023-2024 guidelines'. Please contact Little Sunflower Therapy Co. for more information about service fees.

Private Paying

We accept referrals from clients who are private paying. Please contact Little Sunflower Therapy Co. for more information about service fees.

Private Health Insurance

For private paying clients with private health insurance, speak with your health fund to see if they will accept insurance claims for speech pathology services. If applicable, following your child's appointment, you can use the receipt to make an insurance claim through your provider's portal.

Enhanced Primary Care Plans (EPC)

If you are a privately paying client, you may be eligible to receive a rebate from Medicare for a certain number of speech sessions. Please contact your GP to see if your child is eligible for this service.

Little Sunflower Groups

Group sessions are offerred at Little Sunflower Therapy Co. periodically throughout the year. Please contact us if you are interested in additional information about these groups or would like to enroll your child.

Little Sounds Grow

In this play-based group, we will use songs, books and toys to help families to create a sound-rich environment for your child at home. This group was designed for children who have had a history of hearing difficulties, children who have been late to talk and children who would benefit from additional support to build their sound repertoire. This group will run in Term 2, 2025. Please contact for more information.

Growing for Prep

In this hands-on, interactive group, we work with children who are heading into their first year of school in 2026 to build foundational skills essential for school readiness. This group will run in Term 4, 2025.

Preschool & Kindy Screenings

Early identification of speech and language difficulties is essential to being able to provide early intervention services in the critical age period before children start school. Little Sunflower Therapy Co. offers communication screeners on site at early learning and daycare centres around the Gold Coast. Please contact us for additional information about this service.
